We are a family-run GUESTHOUSE.
Not a traditional hotel.

With us, you can enjoy flexibility even in your culinary choices. Whether it's just breakfast or afternoon coffee in the lounge. Or nothing at all, and you can cook in the apartment. Or treat yourself to dining out occasionally.

Check-In/Check-Out Policies

Our reception is not continuously staffed. CHECK-IN is from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Check-out is until 9:30 AM. Early check-in from 2:00 PM or late CHECK-OUT until 11:00 AM is possible for an additional fee of €15 for rooms and €25 for apartments.
For arrivals after 7:00 PM, the Late Check-in policy applies.
We leave an envelope with your name at the reception door. In the envelope, you will find all arrival information and the key to the apartment door along with directions.

Room Cleaning

There is no daily room service included. If you desire room service (€18 per hour), please contact us. Guest rooms receive complimentary cleaning and towel change (1 large and 1 small towel per person) after a stay of 3 nights.

Pet Policies

The fee for pets in guest rooms and apartments with 2 or 3 bedrooms is €15 per dog per night. In other rooms and apartments, it's €10 per dog per night. If you are bringing multiple dogs, please call us.
Dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds | Dogs are not allowed in the breakfast room and garden | Dogs should not be left alone in the house | Neighbors should not be disturbed by excessive barking | Please leash your dog on the premises | Dog waste must be promptly disposed of by the owner.
As a dog owner, you are responsible for any damages caused by your dog in the apartment or on the premises. We reserve the right to charge fees for cleaning or replacement as necessary. Please note that the removal of dog hair in the apartment before departure is the responsibility of the tenant. We can provide a vacuum cleaner the day before departure. In case of need, we reserve the right to charge separate cleaning fees. We require a €50 deposit for each dog owner before arrival in the apartment. We will refund this within the week after departure. In the unexpected event of negligent damages within the apartment inventory, the deposit will be used. A dog liability insurance is necessary – just in case.


We serve our "Healthy Breakfast" daily from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Experience & Enjoy Buffet with extended times on holidays, long weekends, and selected weekends (dates on request).
If you need to have breakfast earlier for a special occasion, we can provide a small selection on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM. Please inform us before booking (at least 24 hours in advance). Thank you!
Do you have allergies or intolerances?
We explicitly state that for allergies (e.g., celiac disease, nut allergies, etc.), we do not provide a culinary offering. For intolerances, you can find oat milk and gluten-free cereal at the breakfast buffet. However, we do not have gluten-free pastries.

Cancellation Policy

Immediate online payment. No refunds, no rebooking possible. In general, there is no free statutory right of withdrawal for the customer: In the case of a complete cancellation or early termination of the stay, we will charge 90% of the agreed price for the entire stay. To maintain our affordable prices, we depend on good occupancy. This is crucial for us to continue offering a good value for money. We strongly recommend our guests to take out travel cancellation insurance. As a small family business, we cannot bear the costs of cancellations. The provisions of §§ 535 ff of the Civil Code (BGB) apply. We recommend the conclusion of travel cancellation insurance. This way, you won't have to rely on our goodwill, which we cannot guarantee. We have reserved the booked room/apartment for you, turning away other potential guests. Selling the room/apartment again through a last-minute cancellation is not always possible. Only written cancellations will be recognized. The place of jurisdiction is Freudenstadt for both parties. Cancellations are a lot of work for us. We go through the waiting list and make efforts to re-rent the room/apartment. If we succeed and as a result, there are no cancellation costs for you, we will charge a processing fee of €25
For group bookings of four rooms/apartments or more, we reserve special deposit and cancellation policies.

Sustainability / Homematic Smart Home Heating

We have installed the Homematic Smart Home solution in all apartments and have had very positive experiences with it. The heating period starts in the fall in October and lasts until March. During this time, there is a maximum room temperature for each room in the apartment. In the living and bathroom, it is set at 22 degrees, while the bedrooms are set at 17 degrees. For further information, you can contact Andreas Gruber at 0172 3678940 before booking. Please note that our house operates with night-time temperature reduction. In the transitional period, there may be fluctuations as the heating system is linked to the outside temperature. Please consider this before booking! As we constantly ventilate the sports rooms and hallways, we recommend bringing warm tracksuits for the whole family.


If you have forgotten personal items during departure, we will gladly send them back to you for a handling fee:

Within Germany: €14.00 including postage and packaging.
Outside Germany: €25.00 - €50.00 including postage and packaging.

TV Channels

We appreciate your understanding that we can only offer a specific selection of TV channels at the Golden Hen. Not all private TV channels are provided by our provider.

Short Stays under 7 Nights

For short stays, we can only reserve a specific apartment category for you:
When reserving a stay under 7 nights, you must accept all apartments belonging to a category. Short breaks during holidays or over holidays can only be booked at short notice.

Food in the Apartment

We are not fans of leaving food in the apartments after departure. Each family has its own quality standard and taste. Therefore, please bring a small basic supply of spices, vinegar, and oil from home. Salt is available in the apartment.

Hygiene Rules

Due to our hygiene rules, we currently refrain from using many decorative cushions, wool blankets, and decorations in the apartments. Since the surfaces of the dining tables are regularly disinfected before arrival, we use attractive, washable tableware. Thank you for bringing your own wool blanket. (Oh yes, please also bring your own slippers or flip-flops, as we no longer purchase them for sustainability reasons).

Inclusive Services when Booking an Apartment

• Dish towels, electricity, heating, water, final cleaning (tenants are responsible for the independent cleaning of the kitchenette including electrical appliances and waste disposal), kitchen (stove, refrigerator, dishes, pots, coffee maker, toaster), TV, hairdryer.
• Basic equipment: Salt, coffee filter bags, 3 x dishwasher tabs, 3 x garbage bags, 3 x toilet paper, 1 x kitchen roll, 1 x tissue box, 2 x dish towel, 1 x dishcloth, 1 x dish soap.
• Free parking on Oberdorfstrasse (main facility). We do not have charging stations for electric cars at the Goldener Hahn.


Are you bringing bicycles on a bike rack? Please inform us before arrival. We can only guarantee outdoor parking after personal arrangement before arrival, as the space is very limited. Reserve the bicycle garage (for a fee) directly before arrival!


Please note: Our GUEST HOUSE is a non-smoking facility. Please only smoke in front of the house in the courtyard.

Linen Set / Laundry Service

Bed linen and towels are always included in the guest rooms. If you book a vacation apartment for at least 7 nights, towels and bed linen are also included in the price. We wash the linen sets (towels, bed linen, dish towels, etc.) in our house at a minimum of 60°C with a bleach-containing detergent. We are environmentally conscious hosts: We wash the laundry at the Golden Hen ourselves and avoid the use of liquid detergents. The detergents we use do not excessively burden water bodies and thus have good environmental properties. For stays under a week, we charge a one-time fee of 15 euros per person (from 3 years old) for each linen set and 8 euros per toddler (bedding and towels). Alternatively, you can always bring your own linen set. Upon request, we can wash and dry your laundry on weekdays within 12 hours.

Tourist Tax

The tourist tax is 3 euros per adult per day.
